#059, Rama Setu dimensions

DIMENSIONS OF RAMA SETU AS PER VALMIKI RAMAYANA

A yojana according to many scripture interpreters measures 8 miles = approx. 15 km approx.

Rama Setu, the bridge built by Rama according to Valmiki Ramayana was 10 yojana width i.e. 160 km. wide.

Length was 100 yojanas = 1600 km.

GIST
The demy Gods and Gandharvas (singing demy-Gods) saw the difficult to build bridge which is 10 yojana wide and 100 yojana long.

TIME TAKEN TO BUILD RAMA SETU - JUST FIVE DAYS

According to Valmiki Ramayana, the bridge was constructed in just five days.

VERSE NO. 70, SAME CHAPTER. 6-22-70.

GIST
Working fast, the Vaanaras, on the fifth day completed 23 yojanas of the bridge upto the other sea shore.

THIS BLOGGER'S OBSERVATIONS
To build a bridge across the River Godavari which is about 3 km. long and about 80 ft. wide, we take about four/five years, using modern technology. Then what should be the time taken to bridge of 160 km. width and 1600 km. length (Not 35 km. long Adam's bridge between India and Sri Lanka), using just hands?

In our blind faith towards our scriptures, we should not forget practicabilities.

According to this blog:

Prof E.C. La Fond heading the India Ocean Bed Mapping Project of
the United Nations worked as Professor and Founder of the Department of
Oceanography at Andhra University. He was on deputation from the
Scripp's Institute of Oceanography, Lajolla, Sandiego, California, .U.S.A.
Which is the world’s greatest Oceanographic Institution? He mapped the
entire Indian Ocean Bed during 1950-1960 (about) in a special Research
ship, in which many A.U.Departments participated. In 1980-81 he was
invited for a special lecture at the Andhra University and was questioned
after the lecture about the Adam's Bridge- Ramasethu.
He stated, that “The survey revealed that the Bridge was made of
Sand and Big Rocks and rises vertically from the Ocean Bed to the surface.
He said it was built since time immemorial and it was definitely a human
Construction and not a natural formation, either Volcanism or other
Geological Processes as sand and independent rocks as found do not come
together by natural Geological Processes." The Rocks seem to have been
taken from surrounding mountains on the Indian side and the sand from
The Rameswaram Sea shores. There are pillars at regular intervals to support
the bridge as seen in the map (Oxford Atlas).

I do not want to endorse or dispute the views expressed by the above learned scholars. I request the readers to weigh the scope for facts and fantasies.

ur blog is good. it is good for a fellow who tries to research the researched thing. it is no way matches for a research. this research in researched things will obviously mislead u. this mislead of u misleads the oher people who visits. lets us not talk about so called professors who work with evidences. they can look at evidence and at understand evidence. so my personal opinion let me not look for evidences let me understand them. if u feel like, u can visit my community 'sanathana' at orkut.

I am sorry that I approximated 100 yojanas as 1600 km. instead of 1220 kms.

Five days total 100 yojanas, and approx. 1220 km. Okay?
About 10 yojanas width: Can you have a bridge with 120km. width? In India today, what is the widest bridge? May be 100 meters wide in Howra, Kolkata.
