#023 Rama- Women entertain when everything is well

3-13-5, Sanskrit verse
BOOK OF FORESTS ARAN`YA KAAND`A:
Eeshaa hi prakritihi striin`aam
aasrisht`e Raghunandana
Samastham anuranjante
vis`amastham tyajanti ca.

CONTEXT:
Rama was in the forest, Sage Agastya's hermitage, approx. in the 13th year of exile. Agastya wanted to praise Sita. First he blamed women in general as undependable and then appreciated that Sita was an exception to the general folk.

ENGLISH
'Oh Rama (Son of Raghu)! This is the nature of women since the days of creation. When everything is well, they entertain. When there are difficulties, they relinquish (men).

BLOGGER'S VIEW
*Agastya's wife was Loopamudra. She was quite faithful. The unreliability of women could not be the personal experience of Agastya.
*This could have been the experience of the priests and preachers, who might have inserted their preachings into Ramayana.
