One difference between Valmiki Ramayana and Vyasa Mahabharata / Mahabhagavata. In Ramayana, there was a deep-routed animosity among the three queens of Dasaratha i.e. Kausalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi. This, prieests and discourse-makers, could not fully hide. In Mahabharata, there were minor differences between Draupadi and Subhadra. Draupadi wept, when Arjuna brought Subhadra from Dvaraka, but later seems to have reconciled to the reality, after being consoled by Arjuna. In Mahabhagavata, among the eight wives of Sri Krishna, though there was some jealousy, according to narration, Sri Krishna appeared simultaneously in the palace of every queen, and made as though he was showering special love only to her. Till evidence to the contrary is available, we can give some literary credence to this concept of Srikrishna's concurrent-omni-presence, as it will give some audio-visual delight. But, as far as the wives of Dasaratha were concerned, there was much grief among the queens.
2-20-38, Sanskrit Verse
Na drust`aa puurvam
kalyaan`am sukham vaa pati paurushee
api putree vipashyeyam iti
raama aasthitam mayaa
CONTEXT:
Rama told Kausalya that he was to go to forest and Bharata was to become the King. Hearing this Kausalya was disheartened, recalling her travails.
ENGLISH
She says:"Oh, Rama! I did not see happiness or comfort earlier, while my husband was a great man (king). I believed that I could see them at least when my son becomes the king."
BLOGGER'S VIEWS
Living in the King’s house, might have been like a hell after the arrival of new consorts and queens, particularly Kaikeeyi. Kausalya was hopeful that when her son grows up, becomes the Crown Prince and the King, her hardships would go, as the Mother of the King. But that did not materialise with Kaikeeyi's master stroke.
IT IS NOT JUST 3 QUEENS, 350 WIVES OF DASARATHA, WHICH KAUSLYA HAD TO ENDURE
