Chapter 54
Pitraa niyuktaa Bhagavan!
praves`yaamaha tapoo vanam
dharmam eeva aacaris`yaamaha
tatra muula phala as`anaaha .
CONTEXT
Shri Rama left to forest. After crossing Ganga River with the help of the tribal king Guha, he visited the hermitage of sage Bharadwaja (Bharadwaja Ashram). He was telling the purpose of his entry into the forest, to the sage.
ENGLISH
O God! Directed by father, we have entered the forest for ascetism. We shall practise only ethics and duty. We shall have only fruits and roots as our food (muula phala as`anaaha).
